Korea's peculiar customs
Introducing my country's unique customs
Hi!! My name is Un ho Jeon and it is nice to meet you! This is my first time making a blog and so I am very excited. For my first post, I would like to introduce some traditional customs in our country, Korea. I hope you will find them interesting ^^
Today, I'll tell only 2 most important customs that you should know.
First, Koreans shake heads as a way of greeting each other. The meaning of shaking one's head can be the same as waving one's hand. Korea has peculiar customs, and this is one of them. In most of other countries, shaking one's head is the same as saying "no," however, In Korea, it can also be used as a way to say "hi." We often use this gesture for saying "no" and saying "hello." I understand that this can be very confusing to foreigners but if you are saying "hi" then it means "hello" and if you ask a question, then the meaning is "no."
There is also another custom that is very surprising. If you come to my country, you don't have to go to international hospital. Commonly, international hospitals are in center of the city, and they cost a great deal. This is bad for foreigners becuase it means that to go to an international hospital, they often have to travle and they always have to spend a fair amount of money.
However in Korea, every doctor has to learn English. If they don't, they can't become a doctor. This means that you can usually communicate as well as you need to in English with ordinary doctors rather than going to special international doctors. This can be a very helpful option to foreigners visiting Korea.
Well, were you surprised? I think so too!! There are many other customs, but I think this is enough for the first day. Have a nice day and thank you for visiting my blog!!
